Foil Blocking

Foil blocking services (also known as foil application), typically a commercial printing process, is the application of metallic or pigmented foil on to a solid surface by application of a heated die onto foil, making it permanently adhere to the surface below leaving the design of the die.

In the process known as foil blocking, foil stamping machines use heat to transfer metallic foil to a solid surface. Examples of items that are foil stamped include annual reports, pocket folders, product packaging, note cards/thank you cards, business cards, envelopes, ring binders, PVC pockets and letterheads.

Our foil blocking services use either magnesium or brass dies to replicate your design with a metallic finish not normally seen with other print mediums. Normally with foil blocking services only single colour foils are used.

Foils come in a wide selection of colours and finishes, from the most commonly used metallic gold and silver, to foils with pearlescent and holographic effects. Foils are also available as satin, gloss and matt. A clear foil is also obtainable giving a finish similar to UV varnish, but at a more competitive price.
